  • What does it cost to join SOBR?

    Nothing! There is no cost associated with joining SOBR. The majority of our events and initiatives are also free of charge.

  • Do I need to currently be studying in brain research to join SOBR?

    SOBR members must be actively undertaking research in fields associated with the brain such as cellular and molecular neuroscience, psychology and psychiatry, neurogenetics, behavioural neuroscience, computational neuroscience, neuropharmacology, neuroengineering. Students of any level, including undergraduate, honours, masters and PhD are eligible to join.

  • Do I need to be based in Australia to join SOBR?

    Currently, our constitution requires members to be enrolled in a research degree at an Australian institution or university. If you are based internationally but interested in learning more about SOBR, please contact us via the form on our homepage.

  • What sort of events does SOBR host?

    SOBR’s original mainstay events include an annual Professional Development and Networking Dinner, held in Melbourne, and a Student Symposium that has, in recent years, been hosted virtually. We have also hosted smaller events throughout the year, including research and industry webinars, trivia nights, research skills workshops and more!

  • How can I connect with SOBR and it’s members?

    Make sure to follow us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, and join the conversation with our members across these platforms. SOBR will contact you via email, for both our monthly newsletter and for other formal matters.

  • Do I need to renew my membership?

    Yes, SOBR memberships run from March of one year to February of the following year. Your membership therefore expires on the 28th (or 29th!) of February in the year after you joined. You’ll need to renew it in March each year - but don’t worry, we’ll remind you!

  • I have a study, event or opportunity that I would like to share with SOBR, how can I do so?

    We absolutely love knowing about studies, events, opportunities and awards that our members are involved in. You can share your news with SOBR, for us to share with our members: bit.ly/News4SOBR

  • How can I become a part of the SOBR committee?

    Our committee members hold their positions for a term of 12 months. At the end of each year a call for nominations will be distributed and all are encouraged to apply. Steering committee members must be undertaking study at the postgraduate level.
